The Alliance Française is a long-established organisation that was founded over a century ago, in an era and context very different from today’s.
Yet, thanks to the ties it has forged around the world, between its members and local communities, it has prospered and continued its educational and cultural mission.
For over 40 years, the Alliance Française in Brunei Darussalam has continued on this path, supporting those wishing to learn and discover the French language and culture.

The Alliance Française in Brunei Darussalam is celebrating its 40th anniversary.
2007
Change of legal status from an association to a foundation for the main branch in Paris and modernisation of the network’s systems.
1986
Official opening of the Alliance Française in Brunei Darussalam.
1944
Official reopening of the Alliance Française in Paris and its branches around the world.
1940
The Nazis confiscated the archives of the Alliance Française of Paris and slowed down the activities of its branches around the world.
1904
At that time, there were more than 150 branches in France and more than 450 branches worldwide.
1886
The association is recognised as a charity in France.
Some centres abroad are already open: Barcelona, Senegal, Mauritius and Mexico City.
1883
The ‘National Association for the Promotion of the French Language in the Colonies and Abroad’ was founded on the initiative of the diplomat Paul Cambon and Professor Pierre Foncin.
