What is Défi Inter-Alliances?
The ‘défi inter-alliances’ is an international contest which allows students from all over the world to compete for the chance to win a selection of prizes. The contest involves answering various questions about French culture, including a wide range of topics that cover subjects such as geography, language, history, and art.
This year, on the occasion of the 'Sommet de la Francophonie' which will take place in France in October (read here for more information on www.afbrunei.org/francophonie-2024), the DÉFI will involve questions relating to French-speaking cultures and the French language.
Alliance Française de Brunei Darussalam (AFBD) joined forces with the Alliances Françaises of Bangkok (Thailand), Cebu and Manila (Philippines), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Makassar and Medan (Indonesia) to form together the “Asie du Sud-Est” (South-East Asia) group to compete in the international competition.
There are 4 stages to the competition:
The competition takes place in four stages:

a local selection phase organized by each of the seven participating Alliances: 20 questions

a regional selection phase: 25 questions

a final by geographic zones: 25 questions

an international final: 30 questions
The four steps of the selection (local, regional, by geographic zones and international) will consist in a quiz of general culture questions via the Kahoot digital platform.
Local selection phase: Each participating Alliance organises its own local selections during the month of April to select, through an online quiz, its two best learners.
For Brunei Darussalam, the local selection will be on 25th April, Thursday at 7pm, to be held at Alliance Française de Brunei Darussalam premises.
The regional final will take place online on Wednesday 15 May 2024, 6.30pm (Bangkok and Medan time) / 7.30pm (Brunei Darussalam, Cebu, Kuala Lumpur, Makassar and Manila time).
The final by geographic zones will take place online on Saturday 1 June 2024 (time to be confirmed).
The international final will take place onsite, in the Theatre of Alliance Française de Paris, on Tuesday 1 October 2024 (time to be confirmed).
All participants will be informed in case any day and time must be amended.
Prizes
For local selection in Brunei:
1st winner - Free One Term of French Group Class or Free French Private lessons at AFBD (3 classes)
2nd winner - One Private Cooking Class for Two Persons
Other participants will each receive a voucher of Le French Corner.
For the regional final, the first two winners will be awarded specific prizes, separate from their participation in the regional selection. These prizes will be announced by 30 April.
For the geographic zone final, the winner of each zone will be offered a stay in Paris during the 30 September to 6 October 2024 week, in order to allow them to join the international final on 1 October 2024 (the dates of this stay might be amended, within the said period).
Who can register?
• Students studying French at their Alliance Française with a minimum of 20 hours of class during the 1st semester 2024 (1 January to 30 June 2024).
• At least 18 years old on 15 September 2024
• Have a A2 level minimum
